‘Ideal job’ changes worker’s outlook
Douglas Winn describes his new position at Loganholme’s Galaxy Rooflite as the ‘‘ideal job’’.
Mr Winn, 52, has started as a factory hand assembling roof ventilators through the Sarina Job Access $1 million worth of jobs campaign.
John Bridge, Sarina Russo Job Access manager at Logan Central, says the campaign has worked well by engaging the business community.
‘‘It is letting all our local employers about the candidates we have on our books and we have had lots of jobseekers wanting to get involved, he said.
Sarina Russo Job Access is in the fourth week of its campaign and so far $1,126,500 worth of salaries have been added to the local community," he said.
Mr Winn, who lives locally, said securing work had changed his outlook. He said many employers were not willing to engage someone his age.
With a background in working with sheet metal and plumbing materials, he said the position ‘‘suits me down to the ground’’.
‘‘It’s changed me. I’ve still got bills but I’m on the road to recovery,’’ he said.
Galaxy Rooflite manager Ghazal Basit said Sarina Russo was able to save her time in recruiting staff.
‘‘They do all the screening and then give me the options,’’ she said.
Ms Basit said Mr Winn had proven to be a ‘‘fast learner’’ and had picked up the necessary skills in two days.
She said she would recommend Sarina Russo Job Access to other employers.
The $1 million jobs campaign adds the annual salaries of all candidates placed into work in June 2010 to calculate the success of the project.
